K Building

Location: Manchester
Client: Bruntwood

This project was a redevelopment of what was previously the Head Quarters for Kelloggs.
Axis were to undertake an internal façade face lift to highly geometrically shaped atrium area to 3 floors of this new university facility.

Axis Bespoke in house fabricated perforated aluminium cassette façade panels, architectural aluminium flashing details.

The project was concerned with providing an interior façade system that suited the unique architectural vision for the property. To meet the demands of the client, the company sought to develop specific and enhanced attachment details forming a cavity grid system that would provide supports for perforated panelling that could meet the tolerances and dimensional undulations required in the design. An iterative process of design was undertaken to create the substructure that could support the panels, this was the cavity grid that effectively acted as the interface between the masonry structure and the external panels. The masonry walls were non-uniform with undulations across them hence the challenges associated with creating an aligned and flat surface from the panels were severe to compensate for the undulations. Only through the design process undertaken by the company and subsequent iterations on-site during install were the desired tolerances achieved and the undulating nature of the masonry structure mitigated.
